Overview
Challenges in Greek Life around the country have many fraternities changing the way their member development programs are conducted and the relevance they have in today's college experience. SigEp was one of the early leaders, offering an alternative to pledging by establishing the Balanced Man Program (BMP) in 1992. Today, all SigEp chapters adopt the BMP as was voted on at the 2015 Grand Chapter Conclave. When OH Eta was reestablished in 2001, it adopted the BMP as is the continuous member development the chapter subscribes to today.
Similarly, local challenges and closings of many Miami Greek chapters in the late 2000's and early 2010's caused changes to occur through the University and Miami's Cliff Alexander Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life. During this time, Miami University made a significant change that required all sophomore students to live in on-campus residence hall housing. Fraternities that qualified for the 'sophomore exemption' were permitted to house sophomores off-campus in their fraternity houses given academic, behavior, and programming standards were met. During the 2012-2013 school year, the University and Cliff Alexander Office adopted the Community Advancement Program (CAP) which set a new mission and vision for the Miami Greek Community. Today, only chapters that are in compliance with CAP programming are permitted to house sophomores in their fraternity houses. Continual non-compliance will result in loss of recognition by the University as a permitted Greek chapter.
As all of these changes occurred, the OH Eta Alumni & Volunteers met with the current undergraduate chapter and agreed that a group of alumni and undergraduate chapter brothers getting together focusing on living the values of SigEp and integrating these various initiatives was needed. In the Spring of 2013, the OH Eta Leadership Development Committee came to be and held its first meeting with undergraduate and alumni brothers in September of that year. It continues meeting each semester to discuss goal setting, chapter building, and living the values of SigEp and the Miami Greek Community to remain a relevant part of today's college experience and a relevant and valuable member of the Miami University community.
